The HVAC Engineering for Non-Engineers program is designed to provide students with a solid understanding of HVAC engineering concepts. This program provides students with an opportunity to learn alongside peers from similar backgrounds and knowledge base.

This program is designed for non-engineers with approximately five years of experience who, as a part of their professional roles, need to communicate effectively with design engineers. Those who would benefit from the program are those involved with pre-construction meetings, change orders, value engineering, design-build projects, design-assist projects, and sales interviews and presentations.

By participating in this program, students will learn how to:

  • Select the most cost-effective equipment, evaluate loads, and suggest value engineering alternatives.
  • Identify how to minimize oversizing.
  • Lay out systems based on Basis of Design concepts.
  • Ask better questions and communicate effectively with engineers during the pre-construction processes.
  • Participate with an advantage in change order negotiations and interviews.

  • Thermodynamics
  • Comfort, Psychrometrics, & Loads
  • Ductwork Sizing
  • Dry Equipment: Fans, AHUs, DOAS, & Fan Coils
  • Pipe Sizing & Pump Head
  • Refrigeration and Applications
  • Wet Equipment: Pump Types, Cooling Towers, Heat Exchangers, & Chillers
